Review of PBISS, The International School of Koh Samui

Koh Samui School

Koh Samui, 50 miles from the mainland of southern Thailand, became one of the most preferred destinations not only for tourists from around the world but also for foreign expatriates. Widely known for stunning beaches and clear waters, Koh Samui also has main facilities: schools, hospitals, malls and supermarkets,  to serve your needs for a long-term stay among the wide range of eateries and entertainment.

For family expats with children, Koh Samui has 5 international schools available, which provide appropriate education, ranging from pre-school to upper secondary education.

PBISS, an option for British Education at Koh Samui

PBISS, located at Chaweng Noi, is the Cambridge-accredited British International School with an extended availability from Foundation Stage to A-Level, providing education for children from all nationalities and backgrounds. At PBISS, our principle is to create an environment that allows our students to develop and mature into global citizens whilst achieving their full academic potential.

Our curriculum is based on Cambridge International Curriculum, combined with the STEM+ approach to creating the student-centred approach to stimulating the learning experience which helps our students to receive comprehensive education supporting academic, social, physical, and emotional development and health. Our Cambridge x STEM+ Curriculum is tailored to students at various key stages from activity-based learning for young students who require a more engaging environment to the Academic Excellence Mentoring programme for senior students who need 1-on-1 guidance about their career and university preparation.

We try hard to make our school “a home away from home”, not only from our campus which includes every facility needed for class and activities but also from our supportive and collaborative environment that caters for all of its members. Our approach is leading to both educational excellence and the balance in your child’s growth

The Voice from our communities at PBISS

Pawin, our PBISS alumni who went to University College London (UCL)

I first enrolled at PBISS in 2006, as my parents supported a lot of effort in researching to find the best school on the island. Through peers’ recommendations, we learnt that PBISS offers a family-like environment. We also first-hand visited the campus in which we were all warmly welcome by one of the school’s management. This has also given us comfort as we can feel that senior members of the school truly care about education and help us understand why PBISS has a great culture, an international school with a Thai heart.

At PBISS, I have learnt a great deal both soft and hard skill sets that later on help me greatly at the university level. PBISS has offered me plenty of opportunities to explore my interests in a way I never imagined I would receive at other schools which helps me greatly as it helps guide my career goal and help me decide to continue my education in the business field. I have now graduated from University College London with my Degree in Management thanks to all the support from friends, family and PBISS.

Teachers of PBISS also truly care about their students and even spend time outside of work hours for their students. They are also very open and easy to talk with. During the school break, students ask their parents when the school will open because they want to come to school and enjoy their time with friends.

I would recommend every student in Koh Samui to join PBISS if they are looking for the best school with real quality education and support for the students. PBISS is the best option in Samui both in terms of a strong academic and inclusive community. I also have had an opportunity to visit the school lately and I can see that the school is constantly developing both their facilities and the curriculum. Especially now that the school is led by alumni from top global universities, I can see noticeable development and a clear direction of how the school is preparing their students to a global standard while equipping students with a competitive edge in the global setting.

Khun Martin, parents from Primary Years

I chose PBISS as they are the most all-around school that had everything needed for my son’s education. I was looking for the school that was closest to my school experience when I was in England. Thus, PBISS is using Cambridge Curriculum and has many extra-curricular activities my child would need like sports and everything else.

Before enrolling at PBISS, my child used to study at the international nursery where he didn’t prefer to and cried every time he went there and it breaks my heart so much. However, at PBISS, he jumped out of the car and enjoyed every moment there. I also help PBISS with things that I can see my kids playing with friends happily. As of COVID-19, I can see how much my kids missed being with their friends and the classroom.

My child is really nice and mature, most people say it is due to good parenting but I would say that PBISS also plays a major role in his development. For me PBISS seems like a family, everybody is friendly, all the kids seem to get along, and the parents also seem to get along. Teachers are always very open with us and always tell us the truth which is what I need to hear. They really care about what they are doing.

PBISS is a very very good school. If you look at all the schools in Samui, PBISS is the best and I strongly believe that

Khun Ek, parents from Secondary Years

I think that education matters the most. However, education is not based only on curriculum, another crucial factor is teachers. I have been talking with teachers from every school I have visited, my child also used to enrol at some schools. I found that PBISS characteristics are matching with our children and our family.

What I have seen from my children after studying at PBISS is their development based on learning and understanding of their environment, their friends, and their curriculum. Teachers at PBISS also allow for our child’s creativity and imagination, which allows children to grow in their prefered directions. Most significantly, my children understand themself and other people.

I think that the core strength of PBISS is that the management knows that providing education is all about consistency. They are strong in their culture and try to blend both students and parents into the inclusive culture strongly associated with PBISS by including them into the culture, not by force.

As from our community’s voice, PBISS is providing a quality-accredited British education without forgetting Thai Personality for children of Koh Samui. For more information on our academics or admission, please visit our campus or contact us via our email at info@pbiss.ac.th
